| Empeta
International Finishing School: 1 – 9 July 2006
|
| Overview |
Empeta
International will be holding the first of its annual finishing
schools in July 2006.
The purpose of the
finishing school is twofold:
First, it will cater
for young people who have grown up outside their country and have
little or no knowledge of their language and culture, but would
wish to take part in an intensive total immersion programme that
will equip them with sufficient language and knowledge to give
them confidence in their own identity, language, and value systems.
Second, it will assist
young people who, although they already have a good communication
knowledge of their language, have been educated in boarding institutions
and have therefore missed the benefits of growing up in an orate
environment and have not been exposed to the values of cultural
affirmation, sexual identity, and gender solidarity necessary
for giving them a sense of wholeness and completeness in society.
In other words the mission of the finishing school is to put into
practical application the African Renaissance for the consolidation
of self esteem so as to successfully deal with the challenges
of the 21st Century. Enrolment will be limited to 15 female and
15 male participants. Participation will initially also be restricted
to an age limit of 16 – 25 years.

| Is
Empeta International Finishing School for Baganda Only? |
No it is not.
It is open to all African languages and culture. The first session
in July 2006 will focus on Luganda language and the culture of
the Baganda because there has been sufficient interest in this
from both the youth and their parents. Once we receive requests
from other African language groups to conduct a finishing school
in and for a specific language and culture we will do so.
